Apple’s iPad Pro mini will reportedly cost $599

We are now a few days out from the ‘iPhone 5SE’ event. Apple is expected to be unveling a new iPhone, a 9.7 inch iPad Pro, and potentially some new Watch stuffs. This will become the new “base” model. It is expected to baseline at 32GB but is also rumoured to have a 128GB option. This new iPad is not an iPad Air 2 replacement, and you should not expect a price drop in the current one.

Opinion time

I hate how Apple deems the word “pro” on everything that they make. This huge iPad is not the iPad “Pro”. It does not do anything different than any other iPad product does. It has the same user interface, same functionality, and same looks. No pro would ever use this out in the field. It is literally a blown up version of iOS. If you want something that you can use with full desktop software (such as Photoshop or Premiere), you should opt for something a little more high calibre… Maybe a Microsoft Surface. I am not saying that this thing is going to tear through video, but for small things on the go, and for the average user, this thing is a lot more functional and practical than the iPad Pro.

The Surface Pro 4 comes with a lot more power and storage under the hood than the baseline iPad Pro, and it costs only $100 more.

If you are feeling really adventurous, you could buy the Surface Book, but it does have quite the price tag.

Bottom line: Apple, please stop calling everything pro. Your products are not pro. They are not going to get stuff done. With what? The mobile app of iMovie and an extremely dumbed down version of Photoshop? No thanks. I would rather buy a device that can handle it right out of the box.

I don’t know how this article turned from the pricing of the new iPad “Pro” to a rant. But it did… And I feel good.
