The Google I/O 2016 app has hit the market

The Google I/O app has hit the play store for those of you that are heading to the conference.

One thing that is always hard about going to these conferences is that it is hard to schedule so many things and go to them. This app helps to make that a little easier on your frail little heart.

Google has still been updating their I/O event website with new information as we start to get closer to the event. The app has a few Material elements that we haven’t seen before, so that means that we could see an update to some Material stuff in one of the sessions.

The app looks very similar to last year’s. You are able to navigate to things such as the explore, where news is going to be posted, your personal schedule so you know where to be and when, and videos of previous sessions.

It’s going to be a great year for tech!

Tune in to my channel (PurifyHD) to see a live stream of the keynote. Not the keynote itself, more rather my initial impressions live.

Hope to see you there!

Apple begins to charge WWDC lottery winners

Since 2014, Apple has moved their WWDC registration from first-come-first-serve to a lottery system. In 2013, WWDC sold out in 70 seconds. In the years since that developers entered a random lottery, and they were selected to go. Your card is only charged when you are a confirmed winner.

This puts developers on common ground, which gives them all a fair chance to grab a ticket to this year’s conference. Apple stated that they are planning on sending winners notifications on 25 April, some people have already begun to see charges on their cards for $1,599. If you have not received a notification just yet, do not give up. Apple says that all attendees will be final at 17:00 (5pm) on Monday 25 April.

Along with the entry lottery, Apple is proving scholarships to 350 students and STEM organization members. Apple is also providing assistance for travel for up to 125 of its scholarship attendees with financial issues.

Be sure to stay with Currently Techie as we give you news and updates in the upcoming weeks. And go and check out our WWDC 2016 breakdown page.

Apple’s New MacBook Didn’t Really Change! | Currently Techie News Update #18

Apple’s New MacBook

Written by Joey Peters

So right out of the blue Apple came out and released a new MacBook. Nothing actually has really changed in which I am kind of disappointed by. I’m happy that they made it just a little bit better but they could have added a whole lot more than just a better processor and better battery life.

The new processors are now skylake which are expected to also see a debut on the new MacBook Pro that will become announced at WWDC 2016 this year. They all start at the same GHz but now they turbo boost 2 more GHz than the older model processors. It is an improvement but not that big of a improvement.

They somehow fit even more battery life into that tiny piece of thing. I can’t believe that they fit more in. Instead of about 7 hours of battery you are now going to get around 10 hours of battery life which is now on par with the MacBook Pro. They will probably implement the battery technology that they used on the MacBook into the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Pro will probably have a monster battery when it gets refreshed.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you can now buy it in a new color which would be Rose Gold (pink).

I was expecting more from Apple like another USB-C port on it so you can charge it and use an adapter at the same time because I can see how it could be very annoying. I can’t believe they didn’t add it because that would have made everybody that has a MacBook (2015) would want to upgrade to the new MacBook (2016) just for the extra port and Apple would have made a lot more money to make up for the iPhone sales declining.

WWDC 2016 dates announced

Apple announced the dates of WWDC ’16 today. That also means that the ticket lottery has started today. If you go, the price is $1,599 USD.

Things that are expected to come out at this year’s conference includes OS X 10.12 [Big Sur?] as well as iOS 10.

The “kickoff” event where all of the new features and the main keynote for releases is not taking place at Moscone west this year. It is taking place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. All other sessions will be held at the Moscone West Center. The annual WWDC bash will be taking place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium as well.

Features to OS X could include Siri on the Mac. Since the release of Siri back in 2011 it has been a dream of all Mac users to see the personal assistant implemented on Apple’s desktop operating system. A dedicated music app, and a few other features such as backing up your time machine recovery disks to iCloud are high up on the “likeliness list”.

iOS 10 could see a new “Rootless” system that is aimed at prevented even adminstrator level users from gaining access to certain file systems on the iPhone, iPad, or even Mac, but is expected to be able to disabled on OS X. It could make jailbreaking in the future a challenge for those of you who do. A new app on the home screen [great] could be the “Home” app. This would make all of your home automation appliances (The Internet of Things) through Apple’s HomeKit would be able to controlled from one app instead of separate apps such as “ADT” for your home alarm or “Wemo” for your light switches and outlets.

Not a lot is known about other things, and we will continue to look at the rumour mills.

iPhone SE, iPad Pro 9.7″, and new Apple Watch Bands | Apple Event Wrapup

Written by Joey Peters

Apple realeased a ton of new products at the Apple Event on March 21, 2016. In that event, they released a new robot named Liam which can tear your iPhone apart and recycle it. They also released updates for the iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. Now on to the big stuff, the new Apple Watch Bands, iPad Pro 9.7″, and the iPhone SE.

Apple’s new robot named Liam takes recycling seriously. If can completely take apart an iPhone and separate each part to recycle them so they can use the parts in other iPhones. Apple is taking there recycling very seriously lately.

All platforms got a software update that were mostly stability updates but in the iPhone, they got an update called IOS 9.3. In IOS 9.3, there is new awesome feature that completely got stolen from F.Lux which takes out all of the blue light in the display so you can sleep better and also so it dosen’t damage your eyes. They call it NightShift. It basically does the exact same thing except it dosen’t have as many features as F.Lux does. Also, the Apple TV got Folder support if you really needed to kn0w that.

New Apple Watch Bands got released and they are a layered stitch design with lots of colors. The Apple Watch also got a price reduce from $399 to $299 which in my mind it should have been $299 from the beginning.

The iPad Pro 9.7″ got released and it is basically the exact same thing as the iPad Pro except that there is a couple of new features. That new feature is that the camera is upgraded along with a rear facing flash. The new camera can shoot 4K and is a 12 megapixel sensor. A bad thing about upgrading the camera is that it is now protruding which completely sucks so now when you use your Apple Pencil, your iPad will wobble around on the table. One more feature that the the new iPad has that the other one dosen’t is a new screen technology called true tone display where the sensors sense that you are in a warm environment and it changes the screen temperature according to what is going on around you. I am very excited about this new technology and I hope it comes to all of the new Apple products that Apple is going to release.

Finally, the new iPhone 5 SE. This phone has the specks of the iPhone 6s but in a 4″ form factor. This is great for the people that use the iPhone 5s because they can upgrade without getting a bigger screen and they can keep the same design. It has an A9 Apple chip, 12 megapixel 4K camera (no protruding lense), new Rose Gold color, Front flash, Apple Pay, Touch ID, and faster LTE. This new phone is a budget phone and it is the first budget phone from Apple and it only starts at $399 for a 16GB model which sucks because Apple should be starting everything at aleast 32GB. So basically it is an iPhone 6s but smaller.
